Description
Being a photographer in Venice is like being a kid in a candy store! Every direction you turn is a site of beauty and intrigued. Having been drawn to the iconic sites and views of images of the City of Canals, I wanted to capture a more gritty and day-to-day image of the architecture and canals of Venice. Such was born the fine art photograph of Venetian wall art!
The idea of a city being built not just on water – the buildings being held in place by thousands upon thousands of pillions – but on tidal water is mind boggling. It is one thing to build on a static body of water, yet Venice is built in the sea and is subjected to diurnal tides that rise an fall each day. As such, doorways to the canals would have to accommodate varying levels of water by creating stairs or ramps that would sometimes be submerged and other times not. The feat of engineering that is Venice is nothing short of amazing!
On the left side of the image two doorways are visible. These doorways have stairs that lead up into the building, hundreds of years old, that could be accessed regardless of the height of the tides. Gondolas or skiffs would be able to pull up to the entrances to unload or load passengers regardless of the tides.
Whether you’re a frequent traveler to Venice Italy, a resident, or a hopeful tourist looking to be reminded of your dream to travel to one of the world’s most enchanting cities, this Venetian wall art will bring the magic of The City of Canals home to you. This original and signed photograph is available in a variety of sizes and media, and is guaranteed to be a perfect fit for your home or office.
