Description
This is a fine art photograph of a majestic Joshua Tree at night, with the Milky Way behind. This is an original and signed color photograph, available in a variety of sizes and media.
I took this shot on a Joshua Tree Park night sojourn with an old and new friend. Tyler and Nathan arrived from San Diego in the early evening, after dark, to take some night shots. A storm had rolled in and there was not a star to be seen. We posted up in a local watering hole to wait out the somewhat rare desert clouds. Within an hour or two, the storm broke and the clouds completely vanished. We drove into the Park and made our way to various pre-determined points in the Park to create some Joshua Tree art. This shot was captured near Skull Rock / Jumbo Rocks, far enough away from Park Blvd to not be disturbed by passersby. We shot for hours in a variety of locations, with a variety of settings, early into the morning. Finally satisfied, we packed up our gear and headed out, my old friend Tyler and new friend Nathan back to San Diego, and myself just a few miles back to my old homestead just north of the Park.
I have always struggled a bit capturing images of iconic scenery that is invariably shot day-in and day-out. I was pleased to be able to capture an image I thought stood out from the innumerable images of Joshua Tree I have seen – the huge Joshua Tree with branches sprouting in every which way almost a silhouetted, yet with just enough exposure for some detail, with the milky galaxy behind. It was an evening to remember!
